KING SALMON We troll for king salmon
near the mouth of Deep Creek on Cook Inlet Using both herring baits and large Tee-spoon spinners. The early run of King Salmon averages around 30 pounds with an occasional fish over 50 pounds. This run lasts from mid-May till mid June, peaking on Memorial Day. The second run of Kings starts about mid-June and peaks around the fourth of July. While waiting for that big one to strike you can view the distant snow capped peaks across the Inlet in the Alaska Range (many of these peaks are recently active volcanoes), and you can also watch the abundant sea life in the surrounding waters. When the tide starts to slacken, we reel in and head out for deeper water where we anchor up and put out heavy tackle for large halibut. |
MONSTER HALIBUT The halibut in Cook Inlet average from 15 to 50 pounds; we caught several that were 80 to 100 pounds last summer. I recommend the month of June for the bigger Halibut. The fillets from these fish are the best eating fish that you can catch. EQUIPMENT My boat is furnished with the latest equipment and
tackle, and is |
